Futaba Ooki is a beautiful sixteen-year-old with long black hair and an intense gaze who has just moved to Izu, a seaside town on the peninsula of the same name in Shizuoka Prefecture, and hasn't made any new acquaintances yet. For this reason, she is constantly glued to her cell phone, texting the friends she left behind in Tokyo. One day, while riding her scooter to the beach, she meets an elderly lady who runs a kind of kiosk for divers. Exchanging a few words while looking out at the ocean, Futaba learns that Hikari Kohinata, the woman’s granddaughter, attends the same school as her, Yumegaoka High School. But who is Hikari? She is a fifteen-year-old girl with short hair, a bit scatterbrained and hyperactive, but very vital and spontaneous; she wears a whistle around her neck and goes by the nickname Pikari. She lives with her grandmother on the beach and has two great passions: pork soup and scuba diving, which she often teaches in her spare time.
