In 1971, Kazuo Kamimura collaborated on a new manga series with his friend Yu Aku, a renowned lyricist, television presenter, and advertising professional whom he met at the agency where they both worked: the fruit of their labor is Cannibal, the story of a small-town girl willing to do anything to become Japan's brightest star. The biting yet poetic spirit of Aku, a keen observer of the darkest aspects of show business, blends perfectly with Kamimura's ability to create female characters capable of conveying overwhelming charisma and sensuality with a single glance, bringing to life a climb to the stars that is as thrilling and relevant today as it was in the seventies.
