Despite their seemingly opposite personalities, second-year high school students Azuma Higashi and Tokio Kurohara share a strong bond of friendship. Azuma is an excellent student, skilled in fighting, and his values lead him to oppose the injustices taking place in the city with his fists. Tokio, on the other hand, doesn't listen in class and lounges around, and even when it comes to fighting, he prefers to be a spectator. However, there are opponents that even Azuma would not be able to face: the Choujin, human beings with supernatural powers responsible for the devastation that scars the area of Japan where the two boys live. One day, personally threatened by one of these monsters and with no way to escape, Azuma and Tokio decide to defend themselves in the only way they have left: injecting a special drug and becoming Choujin themselves!
