THE KING IN YELLOW

"A masterpiece of American decadent literature, this collection of stories evokes a singular universe, an amalgama of horror, fantasy, and detective fiction. The reading of a strange play seems to provoke an unheard-of madness in many young artists. Amidst tears, laughter, and a nameless terror, the characters glimpse a dreamlike universe worthy of their worst nightmares: the world of Hastur and Carcosa, over which the dread King in Yellow reigns. “I cannot forget Carcosa where black stars hang in the heavens; where the shadows of men's thoughts lengthen in the afternoon, where the twin suns sink into the lake of Hali; and my mind will still bear on it the burden of the Pallid Mask.” In the wake of Edgar Allan Poe, this ti- tle, among the masterpieces of Gothic fiction, has inspi- red great names such as Marion Zimmer Bradley and H.P. Lovecraft, as well as the suc- cessful American series True Detective. The collection is fully illustrated by Samuel Araya, who interprets in about twenty color images the sinister world of Robert W. Chambers."
