The Bellunesi: playing cards

“Le Bellunesi” are playing cards created by Del Nego and AKQA in collaboration with the University of Padua to fund research on the spruce bark beetle, the killer parasite that is destroying the forests of the Belluno area.

In 2018, Storm Vaia felled an estimated 14 million trees over an area of 41,000 hectares. Unfortunately, this tragedy did not end there: the remaining fallen trees fostered the proliferation of the spruce bark beetle, a parasite that has led to the death of 8 million trees in the Veneto region alone.

In this deck, the cards from ace to seven show the damage caused to Norway spruces by the spruce bark beetle, a parasite that leads to their death. Lumberjacks, forest rangers, and botanists become the figures who fight it.

A deck for the forests and for those who bring them to life.
