The only diplomat capable of forging ties with the leaders of the Soviet Union, as well as one of those most committed to the return of the northern islands, becomes entangled in a “national investigation”: on what charge?
Based on the true story of former diplomat Masaru Sato, this manga recounts his courageous standoff with the prosecutor who, bolstered by his belonging to a privileged class, is determined to convict him by any means necessary, shedding light on several key events and figures that shaped the outcome of a piece of our recent history. Claustrophobic atmospheres and grotesque situations stand out against “photographs” of the era, reproduced by the skillful pencils of Junji Ito, an author already dear to the pages of Umami.
