Strap in! The Starfinder roleplaying game will catapult you into the discovery of unexplored worlds in deep space, to shed light on the darkest mysteries of this strange universe, with the able assistance of your interstellar crew.
Do you want to search for lost artifacts among the ruins of that ancient alien temple? Then make sure you have your powered armor and laser cannons ready. Equip your starship well before facing fleets of undead empires sailing through space aboard macabre vessels. Hurry! Space settlements must be defended from those swarms of ravenous aliens. Perhaps you will manage to hack the network of a divine corporation and, who knows, while exploring new stars you might learn the secret history of the universe. Who knows if you will have the opportunity to give your name to as-yet-unexplored planets.
Whether you decide to make first contact with new alien races on unexplored worlds or prefer to fight for survival in one of the neon-lit alleyways of Absalom Station, you will still need all your ingenuity, your combat skills, and to rely on magic. But most of all, you will need your companions!
Starfinder is a roleplaying game: an interactive story in which one of the players, the Game Master, describes the scenes and presents the other players with challenges. The latter attempt to overcome every adversity by playing the roles of heroes in a science-fiction world. By reacting to situations based on their character's personality and abilities, players contribute to creating the plot of the story as they move from one scene to the next. The rolling of dice, along with predefined statistics, adds an element of chance in determining whether the characters' actions succeed or fail.
Thanks to Drift engine technology, there is no limit to the planets you can visit. The most famous star system is that of the Pact Worlds, linked together by a set of mutual defense agreements. But with an entire galaxy available, it will be hard to resist the temptation to explore the Vast. Out there are bellicose star empires, artificial or sentient planetoids, and cosmic phenomena of incredible scale. You will encounter the strangest creatures and deal with organizations with the most disparate goals. In this infinite sea of possibilities, one constant remains: ancient history is gone, erased by a mysterious temporal cataclysm known as the Gap. Will you become archaeologists searching for the few remaining shreds of knowledge, or will you always look ahead, as colonists and explorers intending to shape the future?
In Starfinder, not only is it possible to play the "classic" roleplaying game races such as elves, dwarves, and halflings, but the possibilities are even wider. Androids, artificial creatures endowed with a soul, live side-by-side with aliens from distant star systems, such as the four-armed Kasatha or the insectoid Shirren. The choices certainly do not end there: each class offers you a large number of options to further customize your adventurers. You can be a drone-building mechanic, or enhance your cognitive abilities with an exocortex. If you decide to be a Solarian, you will have to choose which type of stellar energy to attune to. Or you can exploit the technomancer's ability to hack reality with a mixture of technology and magic.
The game also introduces a series of specific rules for managing starships. Each spacecraft has its own characteristics and almost every part of it is incredibly customizable. Furthermore, since you will happen to cross paths with other ships or entire fleets, and not all these encounters will end peacefully, an entire section of the rules is dedicated to managing starship combat.
Each character will fill a role within the crew, such as captain, engineer, gunner, pilot, or science officer, and it will be their actions that determine the outcome of the battle!
